In an article for Forbes, Georg Kell shares his thoughts on the contributions of Volkswagen’s Sustainability Council to Volkswagen Group’s transformation in the wake of the diesel crisis of 2015, and his involvement with the Council.

The independent Sustainability Council was set up in September 2016 for an initial period of four years.

During this time, they were in close contact with the Board of Management and had a close and productive relationship with Monitor Larry Thompson, whose mandate started in April 2017 and ended in September 2020.

Over the years, the Sustainability Council was in a unique position to encourage, monitor and support change – and this was put to the test as the diesel crisis posed an existential challenge for Volkswagen.
